Ellis Simms has now scored 21 goals in just 11 games for Everton’s U18s this season, but when will he make his Premier League debut?

Tom Davies, Jonjoe Kenny, Mason Holgate and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have forced their way into Everton’s first-team plans over the last 18 months or so, and Ellis Simms could soon be following in their footsteps.

The 17-year-old striker has been in quite remarkable form this season, and it comes as little surprise to learn that he was central to the 10-0 thrashing Everton’s U18s dished out to West Brom on Saturday.

Simms scored four times, just three weeks after completing another four-goal haul in a 7-1 win against Newcastle United. And, speaking to the club’s official website, U18 coach Paul Tait has once again singled the teenager out for praise.

“From the first minute until the last, we were at it,” Tait said.

“Our forward play was on another level. We played some outstanding football in terms of keeping the ball and possession, and also penetrating in attack.

“Ellis was brilliant again. He’s full of confidence and he was on fire all day.”

Korede Adedoyin is another Everton youngster in top form right now. His brace against the beleaguered Baggies took his tally to seven goals in just four games. Lewis Dobbin, Max Thompson and highly-rated centre-back Ryan Astley, who has represented the U23s this season, were also on target.

But it seems that Simms is the man Everton fans should keep an eye on other the next few months. Much has been made of the Toffees’ lack of a prolific centre-forward; maybe Simms could be the answer.
