Eric Bailly spoke of his gratitude towards Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino last year, and is now being linked with a move to Spurs.

It was recently reported by the Daily Mirror that Manchester United’s £30 million defender Eric Bailly was ready to quit Old Trafford, with Tottenham and Arsenal amongst the teams keen on signing the centre-back in January.

Bailly is apparently fearing for his United future under Jose Mourinho, and the Mirror reported that Pochettino is a big admirer and could be interested in bringing him to Spurs at some stage in the future if the opportunity presents itself.

And perhaps some comments that Bailly made last year hint that he would also be very keen to head to Tottenham if he had the chance. The Ivory Coast international was discussing the influence that Mauricio Pochettino has had on him following his time coming through the youth ranks at Espanyol.

“Pochettino likes hard-working young people and he helps them through, he assists them and helps them progress,” he said, as reported by the Daily Mirror. “Of course I will always be grateful. I saw him when we played Tottenham and we always talk and catch up.

The decision – if he does look set to leave – will not only come down where Bailly wants to go, of course, but it could prove to be a major advantage for Spurs that Pochettino has that prior relationship with the 24-year-old.

If Tottenham and Arsenal both see offers accepted, then Bailly’s connection with Pochettino has to be a positive for Spurs. And if he does join Tottenham and Pochettino can get the best out of him after a difficult time in the Premier League so far, then he could prove to be an incredible signing for Spurs.
