Celtic want to keep Scott Bain at Parkhead when his loan expires, but Championship duo Bristol City and Birmingham are interested in the Dundee stopper.
Scott Bain has only played 90 minutes of football since joining Celtic on loan from Dundee in the January transfer window.
But it appears that superb debut in Sunday’s Old Firm derby win at Rangers has been enough to encourage the Hoops to try to make his deal permanent when the 26-year-old’s Dundee contract expires at the end of the season.
Celtic, however, are not alone in their admiration for the Scottish shot-stopper.
But if it is first-team football that Bain is after, he would surely be better off staying at Celtic. After all, both Bristol City and Birmingham already boast two of the best shot-stoppers outside of the Premier League in Frank Fielding and David Stockdale and, as of yet, there is no suggestion that either could leave Ashton Gate or St Andrews respectively at the end of the season.
At Celtic, however, there is an opportunity for Bain to cement himself as the club’s future number one. Dorus de Vries might have another year on his contract but, at the age of 37, is hardly a long-term solution.
Furthermore, the currently crocked Craig Gordon will be 36 before the year is out and Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers will surely be aware that the veteran Scotsman cannot go on forever.
Opportunity knocks for Bain, then, if he decides that Celtic is his preferred destination.
