Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly want to sign Egyptian winger Sobhi from Premier League strugglers Huddersfield Town.
Reports that Ramadan Sobhi could swap the John Smith’s Stadium for Molineux in the summer has left fans of both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Huddersfield Town a little baffled.
According to the Mail, Wolves are keen to sign the Egypt international this summer before the African Cup of Nations kicks off on July 21.
The question on everyone’s lips, however, is why.
Huddersfield paid £5.7 million to rescue Sobhi from relegated Stoke in the summer, according to the BBC. But a player who only showed the odd flash of talent in the Potteries has barely been given an opportunity for the side sitting bottom of the table with the least goals in the top flight.
Sobhi has played just 76 minutes of Premier League football all season. On paper, this is not the greatest reflection of the 22-year-old’s quality.
But there is certainly a player in there somewhere. Sobhi has been likened to Lionel Messi and Mo Salah for his speed, skill and ability to tie defenders up in knots and Nuno Espirito Santo has a track record of helping players realise their potential.
