Mauricio Pochettino is under a bit of pressure at Tottenham Hotspur, with Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe tipped to be his successor.
In truth, Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham Hotspur probably do not deserve the criticism coming their way right now.
For the first time since the Argentine took over in 2014, Spurs have lost three games in a row, Premier League defeats against Watford and Liverpool preceding a late and undeserved 2-1 loss away at Inter Milan in Europe.
Suddenly, the pressure appears to have risen on Pochettino, with many in particular questioning his decision to rest Kieran Tripper and Toby Alderweireld for the trip to the San Siro.
While there is absolutely no reason to suggest that Pochettino’s future is in doubt after what can be described as a blip at best, this has not stopped Ladbrokes from putting together a list of managers who could potentially replace Pochettino in North London.
Eddie Howe of Bournemouth is the current front-runner. The 40-year-old is one of the most highly-rated young coaches anywhere in Europe, having established the Cherries as a Premier League team over the last three seasons.
Julian Nagelsmann, who is even younger than Howe at just 31, is also among the bookies’ early favourites despite agreeing to take over at RB Leipzig at the end of his final season with Hoffenheim.
Standing further back at 16/1 are Zinedine Zidane, Diego Simeone, David Wagner, Marcelino Garcia Toral and, perhaps most surprisingly, the Villarreal head coach Javier Calleja.
But, considering that Pochettino only signed a new five-year deal at Tottenham in May, it seems unlikely that he will be going anywhere soon.
