Championship trio Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County and Sunderland reportedly Millwall’s Lee Gregory, but where are Leeds United?

Leeds United know just how good Lee Gregory can be on his day.

The Millwall striker ran the Whites’ defence ragged as Neil Harris’s side snatched a dramatic 4-3 win away at Elland Road back in January, his speed and power causing no end of problems before he tapped home late in the first half from a Steve Morison cross.

So with a number of Championship rivals keen on signing Gregory this summer with his current deal at Millwall set to expire at the end of the campaign, it is something of a mystery why a Leeds side lacking a proven second tier goal-scorer have not expressed an interest.

According to the Mail, both Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland are keen on a bargain deal for the 29-year-old, while Derby County were also linked in January with a £500,000 bid for a striker who has nine league goals to his name this season.

On paper, however, Gregory is exactly the kind of signing Leeds need and he showed just why in that irrepressible display at Elland Road two months ago.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga is set to leave at the end of the season when his loan spell from Hamburg expires, as Leeds cannot afford his £50,000-a-week wages. Jay-Roy Grot, Caleb Ekuban and Pawel Cibicki, meanwhile, have one Championship goal between them all season.

So Leeds should forget Jerry Mbakogu, the Serie B striker who has six goals in 21 games and could be on his way to West Yorkshire for £4.4 million, as reported by Gazzamercato.

Getting Gregory on a free is the sort of deal the fans should be praying for.
