Glasgow Rangers reportedly want to sign Dylan McGeouch when his Sunderland contract expires.
The prospect of Dylan McGeouch returning to Ibrox might not go down too well with each and every Rangers supporter.
The Northern Echo reported last week that Rangers are among the clubs looking to sign the 26-year-old Scotland international, who could leave Sunderland on a free just 12 months after moving to the Stadium of Light from Hibernian.
McGeouch spent two years as a youngster at Rangers between 2009 and 2011 but this would hardly be a homecoming which would touch the hearts of the Ibrox faithful.
After all, McGeouch made the cardinal sin of walking out of Rangers eight years ago…to join their bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic.
The playmaker has hardly hidden the fact that he is a boyhood Bhoys fanatic and, in quotes reported by the Daily Record in 2011, McGeouch admitted that he ignored a plea from Gers legend Walter Smith to stay on the blue half of Glasgow.
“Yes, I was in a few meetings with Rangers before I came here and there were a lot of things said. It is hard to say what without going into details but they wanted to keep me,” an 18-year-old McGeouch said.
“It wasn’t saying no to him (Walter Smith), we didn’t really speak about Celtic, it was more about what he could do with me with Rangers.
“I didn’t play them (Celtic and Rangers) off each other, it was really about what Rangers could do for me and as a Celtic fan I just thought Celtic was the place for me.”
Ironically enough, McGeouch failed to make the grade at Celtic before establishing himself as one of Scotland’s finest midfielders with Hibs.
And if Rangers beat Aberdeen, Blackburn, QPR and co to his signature, McGeouch will have to work twice as hard to win over the supporters.
