London rivals Chelsea and Spurs are tracking the progress of prolific MK Dons youngster Dylan Asonganyi.
Before Gareth Southgate went all experimental with his youthful England side in international friendlies against Brazil and Germany, Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino had coached exactly half of the Three Lions last 30 debutants.
Since arriving on British shores with Southampton in 2014, Adam Lallana, Dele Alli, Harry Kane, Kyle Walker and Danny Rose are just some of the homegrown talents who have evolved into some of England’s most important players.
In an era where the Premier League is dominated by imported talent, the England national team owes much to Tottenham’s Argentine tactician.
It almost goes without saying then that MK Dons’ latest homegrown wonderkid Dylan Asonganyi should see a move to North London as the potential launchpad for his hugely promising career.
The teenage striker has scored 20 goals in 17 games for The Dons’ Under-18 and Under-23 sides this season and, according to The Guardian, Spurs are keeping a close eye on his progress. Of course they are. After all, Dele Alli hasn’t done too badly since swapping the Stadium MK for White Hart Lane in 2015.
The report, however, claims that London rivals Chelsea are also in the race. At this stage, however, it seems almost churlish to remind you that young players don’t often get the opportunities they deserve at Stamford Bridge.
It’s telling that both Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tammy Abraham made their senior England bows last week but both were forced to move away from Chelsea on loan deals in order to get an opportunity in the Premier League.
At Tottenham, Asonganyi will be more than just a number. If he chooses Chelsea instead, however, he might as well keep his belongings packed because a relentless series of loan spells would surely be around the corner.
