Greg Docherty is on loan at Shrewsbury Town from Scottish Premiership giants Rangers and continues to thrive in League One.
Greg Docherty has gone from strength to strength since leaving Rangers on loan.
To say that the 22-year-old has been a revelation at Shrewsbury Town would be something of an understatement after all. In 23 games, Docherty has scored seven goals and produced four assists while quickly becoming a fans’ favourite for his tireless performances in the centre of the park.
Now, Shrewsbury only appointed Sam Ricketts as their new manager in December but the former Wales international has already been won over by Docherty’s infectious performances.
“Doch is like the Duracell Bunny. He doesn’t stop running, does he? He’s a real asset and a real threat because of his energy and work rate,” Ricketts, the former Wrexham boss who replaced John Askey, told the Shropshire Star.
“When he gets in that final third he looks dangerous, he scored one (against Peterborough at the weekend) and put another excellent free-kick just after.
“He’s a player who probably typifies the team – honest, hard-working with quality added to it.”
Rangers paid £675,000 to sign Docherty from Hamilton Academical in January of this year (Scotsman). And, despite being sent out of Ibrox just a few months later it seems that he could still have a future under Steven Gerrard.
Speaking to the Scottish Sun this week, Gerrard admitted that Docherty has plenty of admirers and indicated that he could consider re-calling the midfielder when the transfer window opens next month.
But surely Docherty would benefit more from staying at Shewsbury until the end of the season before returning to Rangers and getting an entire pre-season under his belt.
