Everton reportedly want to sign Wilfried Kanon from Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag, but he dreams of joining Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Everton’s search for a new centre-back this summer has taken them far and wide. And, according to the Sun, they now have their eyes set firmly on Ivory Coast international Wilfried Kanon.

It is understood that manager Sam Allardyce has made defensive reinforcements a priority this summer as Everton have one of the worst goals’ against records in the Premier League this season. And Kanon, who plays for ADO Den Haag in Holland, is one of the names on the Toffees’ shortlist, with his £2 million price-tag potentially making him one of the bargains of the summer.

But there is one potential drawback to signing a very talented and promising defender for such a bargain fee. The 24-year-old Kanon has already admitted that he dreams of playing for a very different Premier League team.

Speaking to Voetbal Zone in January, the 21-time Ivorian international was asked where he dreams of playing his football in the future and his answer was unequivocal.

“Chelsea, that’s what I want to go to.”

Now, Kanon’s ambitions are understandable. Chelsea are one of the most successful sides in modern European football and perhaps the best player in his country’s history, Didier Drogba, is a bona fide legend at Stamford Bridge.

But an Everton side seemingly lacking a real identity should perhaps be wary of signing a player who could see Goodison Park as a stepping stone.
