Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers set up a scouting network in Scandinavia, so Felix Beijmo will not be the last Swede linked with Molineux.
With Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes pulling the strings, there is an unmistakable Iberian flavour to this current Wolves squad.
But the runaway Championship leaders could be branching out beyond Portugal and towards Scandinavia.
And it appears that this new expedition is starting to have some results. Because Expressen report that Wolves had held extensive talks to sign Djurgaarden’s 19-year-old defender Felix Beijmo in the final day of the transfer window.
The teenager has really impressed in the Allsvenskan after moving to Djurgaarden in March of last year, scoring two and setting up three league goals last season while establishing himself as one of Scandinavia’s most promising young full-backs.
In the end, however, Wolves put the deal to one side as they had bigger fish to fry, and promptly sealed a deal to bring Benik Afobe back to Molineux from Bournemouth on loan.
But it would be no surprise to see Beijmo linked again in the summer. And the fact that Wolves are looking to Sweden for young, unknown talents, suggests that their Scandinavian scouting network is starting to click into gear.
Wolves’ already exciting squad is based on some of the most promising talents in Portugal and, if they can corner the Swedish market in the same way, it should reap impressive results.
