Glasgow Rangers sold Josh Windass to Wigan Athletic in the summer transfer window.

Steven Gerrard’s decision to dispense with Josh Windass on transfer deadline day in August certainly raised eyebrows.
Windass was Rangers’ joint-top scorer last season with 18 goals in all competitions but was sold to Wigan Athletic for what looked like a surprisingly low fee of just £2.5 million.
Speaking to talkSPORT (20 September), the former Accrington Stanley midfielder indicated that he was forced out of Ibrox and had initially hoped to play a big role under Gerrard in Glasgow.
But it seems that Wigan fans are now seeing why Rangers let Windass leave on the cheap. The 24-year-old has scored just once in ten games since arriving in Lancashire and, looking at the reactions to his display on Saturday, many Latics supporters have already lost patience.

Windass was subbed off with 20 minutes to go as Wigan were battered 4-0 away at a Preston side who had not won since the opening day.
And, tellingly, much of the criticism will ring a few bells for Rangers fans. Windass’s work rate and ability to influence a game is under question at Wigan. Many Gers supporters expressed a similar view about the enigmatic midfielder last season.
With Rangers flying in Windass’s absence, beating the previously undefeated Hearts 3-1 on Sunday, it seems that Gerrard got another decision correct.
