One year after arriving from Cagliari amid big wages and even bigger expectations, the Scottish Sun reported that the 36-year-old Portuguese international was one of the players seemingly set for the cull as the Steven Gerrard revolution got underway.
But the Daily Record reckon that Alves has no desire to bid farewell to Scottish football just yet, despite starting just 17 league games last season and finding himself on the bench more frequently than he might have imagined.
“I have no plans to finish my career either at club or at country level,” Alves, who has one year left on his Rangers contract, said in quotes reported by the Daily Record.
As such, Rangers fans can expect to see more of the 95-time Portugal ace next season too and his experience could be invaluable as the Glasgow giants aim to somewhat put up a challenge in the Scottish Premiership and stop Celtic cruising to a seventh straight league title.
And supporters seem quite mixed on the prospect of Alves staying for one more year.
There is no doubting his quality, see the stunning final day free-kick against Hibernian, but the Ibrox faithful want more passion and consistency from arguably their biggest name player.
