Championship underachievers Leeds United are keen to bring former Elland Road favourite Kyle Bartley back from Swansea City.
Bartley spent the 2016/17 season on loan in West Yorkshire, forming a formidable partnership with Pontus Jansson as Garry Monk’s Leeds finished just outside the play-off places in seventh.
But, until now, it has been uncertain how much Swansea would demand for the former Arsenal youngster, who has never really managed to nail down a first-team place in South Wales.
TEAMtalk, however, have suggested that The Swans would demand around £6 million for Bartley this summer, meaning he would be Leeds’ biggest signing since Robbie Fowler arrived from Liverpool in 2001 for £11 million.
The report adds that it is far from certain that Swansea will let Bartley go, however. They have been relegated from the Premier League and would obviously rather avoid strengthening their Championship rivals.
But if Leeds can cobble together the £6 million fee required to reunite Jansson with Bartley, it would be a major step in the right direction while proving to supporters that owner Andrea Radrizzani is indeed willing to invest in the pursuit of success.
It remains to be seen, however, whether such a fee ends up pricing Leeds out.
