Makenzie Heaney was highly rated at Newcastle United but the Premier League club will let him go, and Norwich City could bring him to Carrow Road.

Makenzie Heaney has been one of the brightest talents in Newcastle United’s academy in recent years.

The 19-year-old striker won eight caps for England at U18 level and, three years ago, was at the centre of a tug-of-war with the Three Lions and Scotland both fighting to secure his international allegiance.

But the versatile Heaney, who can play up top or wide on the left, did not manage to make a breakthrough at St James’ Park. And, according to the Chronicle, he is set to become one of the first victims as Rafa Benitez shakes up Newcastle’s poorly-performing academy.

Heaney’s contract is set to expire in the summer and he will become one of the many youngsters let go by Newcastle. And, in the Magpies’ defence, the teenager has made just seven appearances all season for the club’s U23s.

Fortunately for Heaney, however, he should not be short of options once his long association with Newcastle comes to an end.

Daniel Farke, manager of Norwich City looks on before the Sky Bet Championship match between Ipswich Town and Norwich City at Portman Road on October 22, 2017 in Ipswich, England.

The Chronicle adds that there is a good chance he could sign for Norwich City, having recently spent a week on trial with the Championship club. He also has interest from a number of other sides in the Football League.

Notably, Paul Dummett is the most recent academy graduate to establish himself as a regular in Newcastle’s first-team and Heaney will not be given the chance to break that duck.
