Harry Forrester was released by Scottish Premiership giants Rangers in 2017 – but where is he now?
A lot has changed since Harry Forrester last pulled on the royal blue shirt of Rangers – for both him and the club.
In that 4-0 thrashing of Hamilton Academical in March 2017, Forrester featured alongside Jon Toral, Joe Dodoo, Joe Garner and Emerson Hyndman while Philippe Senderos sat, as he so often did at Ibrox, on the bench.
Two and a half years have passed since that clash with The Accies and 14 months since Forrester’s contract at Rangers was cancelled with mutual consent. The Glasgow giants didn’t want to keep him and the midfielder felt the time was right for a fresh start.
But all those who expected the former Brentford and Doncaster winger to merely drift back into the Football League and spend his remaining years being churned around the third and fourth tiers, from Yorkshire to Devon, Lancashire to the Midlands, didn’t see a globe-trotting world tour on the agenda.
Yet if Forrester’s spell in Iran of all places didn’t go to plan, life is certainly looking a lot sweeter under the Californian Sun.
Richard Chaplow and Liam Trotter had the right idea when they decided to swap weekends in Rochdale and Gillingham for the American dream and, as of this summer, Forrester followed in their footsteps by joining Orange County in the US second tier.
Kansas-born coach Braeden Cloutier was thrilled to sign a ‘player of Harry’s calibre’ and Forrester hasn’t let him down. With seven assists to his name, the 28-year-old has looked a cut above, firing Orange County into fourth in the Western Conference.
He is showing once and for all that there is life outside the borders of Britain for a footballer who wants to broaden his horizons.
