Could Cameron Jerome really leave Derby County for their bitter Championship rivals Nottingham Forest? Aitor Karanka’s comments are worth a look.

Cameron Jerome has turned down a move to Ipswich Town because of his affiliation with their Anglian neighbours Norwich City, according to the Eastern Daily Press.

So the 32-year-old would be a brave man indeed to make that short journey down Brian Clough Way from Derby County to Nottingham Forest.

According to The Mirror (live blog, 6.40pm), Derby are willing to listen to offers for Jerome, who only signed in January for £1.5 million but has failed to make an appearance since Frank Lampard took over at Pride Park.

And Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka has hinted that he could be interested in offering the experienced striker an escape route.

“Every single good player, until the last moment, if they are available we are open to the idea,” Karanka told Derbyshire Live after Forest’s 3-1 EFL Cup win against Newcastle United on Wednesday.

“But if anyone does arrive, they will come into a tight group; they will come into an ambitious group and every single good player is one I like.

“I know Cameron, I know Jermain Defoe (who has also been linked). I know a lot of players. We have to only wait two days.”

Jerome is a proven Championship striker who has been promoted three times, twice with Birmingham City and once with Norwich in 2015.

Forest have already signed Lewis Grabban and El-Arabi Hillel Soudani but sold Ben Brereton to Blackburn Rovers. They have also scored just seven goals in five league games in 2018/19.
