Does Dortmund’s reported Pulisic price-tag make Tottenham move unlikely?

Spurs were interested in luring Bundesliga starlet Christian Pulisic to North London last summer but Dortmund would demand a huge fee now.

Christian Pulisic not only represents the future of US ‘soccer’ but the hopes of Borussia Dortmund, too.

The 19-year-old All American Superstar has taken his game to a whole new level this season, scoring and assisting five Bundesliga goals as he fills the void left by the departure of Ousmane Dembele at the Signal Iduna Park.

So, understandably, Dortmund have placed a huge price-tag on Pulisic’s head to ward off Premier League suitors in this increasingly inflated transfer market.

According to German publication Sport 1, Die Schwarzgelben will refuse to sell the teenager for anything less than £88 million.

So Tottenham Hotspur may be ruing their decision not to go all out for Pulisic back in the summer. According to the Daily Mirror in July, Spurs were keen to bring the winger to North London but eventually decided against following up their interest due to his wage demands.

Spurs’ reluctance to pay huge pay packets to even their top performers is well documented, with chairman Daniel Levy usually unwilling to negotiate above £100,000-a-week; a salary far less than players tend to earn at Tottennham’s Premier League rivals.

And, just to make a deal for Pulisic look even more unlikely now, Spurs would have to more than double their transfer record, set when they signed Davinson Sanchez from Ajax, to bring the youngster to England.
