Jeremy Toljan has won the Scottish Premiership and the Cup since joining Celtic on loan from Bundesliga runners-up Borussia Dortmund.
Jeremy Toljan has made it clear that he has little interest in playing for Celtic next season as he aims to salvage his career at Borussia Dortmund, in quotes reported by the Daily Record.
The swashbuckling right-back joined Celtic on loan in January and, while he won two trophies during his time in Glasgow, Toljan failed to convince many supporters while losing his starting place to veteran Mikael Lustig.
The German failed to get off the bench in Saturday’s 2-1 Scottish Cup final victory against Hearts at Hampden Park.
And with his loan spell now having come to an end, Toljan has turned his focus on winning over Dortmund coach Lucien Favre.
“I’m looking forward to playing for Dortmund next season. You never know what will happen in football, but my plan is definitely to stay with Borussia Dortmund,” said the former Hoffenheim defender, who joined Dortmund from Hoffenheim two years ago after winning the European U21 Championships with Germany.
“I had a great time at Celtic . At the weekend we completed our season by winning the Scottish Cup Final to make it a treble.
“It was a great experience and due to my time in Scotland I have returned a better player and I also have winners’ medals from the league and the cup.
“Now I want to try and make the same impact with Dortmund.”
Toljan was never likely to stay at Celtic with Neil Lennon preferring Lustig in his position. But with the long-serving Swede out of contract, like Costa Rican international Cristian Gamboa, the Hoops could lose three right-backs this summer alone.
It is clear then where the club must look to strengthen over the next few months.
