Mallik Wilks is on loan at League One Doncaster Rovers from Championship title-chasers Leeds United – what does his future hold at Elland Road?

Mallik Wilks’ razor-sharp start at Doncaster Rovers has come to an end in recent weeks.

The Leeds United youngster scored in his first two games on loan at the League One club back in August but he has fallen away from the starting XI ever since suffering a dead leg in the 2-1 win against AFC Wimbledon in November.

Alfie May has come into Doncaster’s starting XI since and impressed, keeping Wilks out of the starting XI as a result. The teenager has played just 45 minutes of football in the last three weeks.

But, speaking to The Star, Rovers boss Grant McCann is at pains to point out that he still rates the 19-year-old highly at has been very impressed by his impact at the Keepmoat Stadium.

“We love Mallik,” McCann said of the striker, who has scored five goals in 25 games. “He has brought so much to us here.

“He may not have scored as many goals as he would have wanted but he’s a threat and he takes a lot of burden off John Marquis with his physicality.

“He’s been great.”

Wilks’ long-term future remains up in the air right now with his contract at Leeds due to expire at the end of this coming season. But McCann has claimed that he’s spoken to the Championship title chasers and a deal has been agreed to extend Wilks’ loan spell until May.

If Leeds are willing to let Wilks go, you can imagine that Doncaster would offer him a permanent home.
