Scottish Premiership giants Rangers are battling Celtic for the signature of Kilmarnock’s midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu this summer.

Rangers spent much of last summer’s transfer window bringing in players that Pedro Caixinha knew from his time in Mexico and Portugal. Though the Ibrox faithful will not need reminding that many of these signings flopped spectacularly in Scottish football.
But Rangers appear to be taking a far more considered and intelligent approach to recruitment under Graeme Murty and director of football Mark Allen.
Rather than signing unknown imports with no experience in Scotland, the Glasgow giants appear to be turning their attention towards players who have performed well against them in domestic competition.
The Nottingham Forest loanee Jason Cummings scored a remarkable eight times versus the Gers during his prolific spell at Hibernian.

Greg Docherty, meanwhile, arrived in January following a prolonged transfer saga, two months after he inspired a brilliant 2-0 win for Hamilton at Ibrox.
And it seems that Rangers are hoping to take the same approach with Youssouf Mulumbu. According to The Mail, Rangers are battling Old Firm rivals Celtic for the 31-year-old former West Brom midfielder, who has been fantastic since joining Kilmarnock on a free transfer in November.

Mulumbu was the best player on the pitch as Killie won 1-0 at Ibrox late last month, and no shortage of Rangers fans were clamouring for his arrival in the summer when his short-term deal at Rugby Park comes to an end.
If Cummings and Docherty aced their audition, the same can be said of Mulumbu.
