Wolverhampton Wanderers looked to be pulling clear in the race for Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe but Midland rivals West Brom cannot be discounted yet.
Ever since Benik Afobe left Wolves for Bournemouth two years ago, he has been linked with a return to Molineux.
It is understood that Wolves have made a bid to re-sign Afobe on loan from Bournemouth until the end of the season, although a deal is far from done just yet.
Bournemouth are looking to sell the 24-year-old this month and will want to recoup the £10 million they paid in January 2015, as reported by the Telegraph. But Wolves are unwilling to pay the kind of money Eddie Howe wants right now so it will be interesting to see whether the Cherries are willing to alter their demands.
So this should give West Brom hope that a deal could still be possible. The Baggies have not spent a penny yet this month due to Financial Fair Play limitations but, with Jonny Evans increasingly likely to leave before the window shuts, West Brom could soon have some much-needed funds to play with, as reported by Sky Sports.
And if Alan Pardew still sees Afobe as the answer to his side’s goal-scoring problems, they should not think twice about investing £10 million in a player who should not be written off for a disappointing two-year stint on the South Coast.
The longer Wolves’ impasse goes on, the better West Brom’s chances could be.
