Championship basement boys Sunderland are hoping to raid Brentford for highly-rated left-back Jeremie Milambo
Now, Jeremie Milambo is not the sort of signing that is going to fire Sunderland to the League One title should their relegation fears come true.
The coveted Brentford left-back is just 17 years of age, after all, and is yet to make his senior debut for The Bees. HITC sources tell us that Sunderland, alongside West Brom and Burnley, are all keen on Milambo, who has shone for Brentford’s U18s and is very highly rated at Griffin Park.
But after years of dreadful recruitment and expensive mistakes in the transfer market, it seems that a Sunderland side in crisis are actually planning ahead in an attempt to ensure a brighter future at the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats appear to have used up their nine lives, sitting bottom of the Championship and set to fall into the third tier for the first time in half a century. And with the club in huge amounts of debt, it seems that they cannot even strengthen their squad and throw money at the problem.
So, while their hand has been forced somewhat, it seems that Sunderland are doing the right thing in putting their faith in youth.
Ethan Robson has already been handed a new two-year deal with the club desperate to tie down attacking duo Josh Maja and Joel Asoro (above), aged 19 and 18 respectively. Furthermore, Coleman has also spoken of the importance of highly-rated academy ace George Honeyman, who he aims to build his side around.
Milambo is not the sort of addition that will get fans on the phone renewing their season tickets but he would hint at a brighter future.
