Would another excellent Anderlecht season mean Everton miss Leander Dendoncker chance?

Everton were reportedly in discussions over the potential signing of Anderlecht youngster Leander Dendoncker this summer.

Leander Dendoncker is a player on the up. Although you wonder whether Everton have missed their chance to land one of Europe’s most promising midfielders.

Belgian publication DH reports that Everton boss Ronald Koeman spoke with the Belgian side in August while the player’s agent, Christophe Henrotay, claims that he contacted the Toffees as well as Atletico Madrid and PSG in order to strike a deal.

However, Dendoncker will remain an Anderlecht player until January at the very least, although the two-time Belgian international’s future beyond that is anyone’s guess.

And you wonder whether Everton will rue not taking their chance to land a player who appears to have everything in his locker at the age of just 22.

If links with Atletico and PSG are not worrying enough, the Daily Star reports that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is a big fan – and his interest will certainly have been piqued when Dendoncker scored a bullet header against his side in last season’s Europa League quarter finals.

The report claims that Anderlecht will not let Dendoncker leave on the cheap with a price-tag of £34 million on his head, but it goes without saying that United are hardly averse to spending big and they will reportedly step up their interest next summer.

If the dynamic 6ft 2ins midfielder enjoys another fine season at the Constant Vanden Stock, you can expect that Everton will have even more competition in the race for the latest Belgian superstar-in-waiting.

And although the Toffees have thrown around their financial muscle with glee this summer, it may be a little too soon to suggest they could compete with PSG, Atletico and Manchester United for players.
