Championship giants Nottingham Forest haven’t scored in five games and are said to be targeing Peterborough United’s League One star Marcus Maddison

The renowned pragmatist Aitor Karanka didn’t wait around to build Nottingham Forest in his image once he replaced Mark Warburton at the City Ground at the start of the January transfer window.

And, perhaps unsurprisingly, Nottingham Forest’s defence looks far more solid than the shambles that rather summed up Warburton’s inconsistent reign, despite losing their last two games against Millwall and Middlesbrough by 2-0 scorelines.

Nottingham Forest have now kept three clean sheets in the last five League matches.

Tobias Figueiredo has been a revelation since he joined on loan from Sporting Lisbon, Danny Fox has been rewarded for his impressive form with a new contract and, as the Nottingham Post has reported, Karanka has made no secret of his desire to bring Michael Dawson back to Forest when his contract at Hull City expires in the summer.

The job is only half done, however, and it seems that the former Middlesbrough manager is now turning his attention to the club’s attack.

Tellingly, Nottingham Forest have not scored in their last five Championship games, which have included successive 2-0 defeats to Millwall and Middlesbrough. So their interest in Peterborough United’s creative lynchpin Marcus Maddison makes perfect sense.

The Sunday People (8th April, page 51), claims that Forest are interested in signing the unpredictable 24-year-old, who boasts a remarkable 12 goals and 23 assists in all competitions this season, and is understood to have a release clause in his contact that could be as around £2m.

But that would be a small price to pay for a Nottinham Forest side desperate to strike a balance between strong defending and an attacking threat.
