Wolves were linked with Norwich’s Jorge Mendes-represented striker Nelson Oliveira in the summer.
Wolves need one more striker in January to put the finishing touches on the Championship’s most fearsome squad. And with one of Jorge Mendes’ clients being a proven second-tier goalscorer, you can imagine that speculation surrounding a move to Molineux won’t be far away.
According to the Sunday People in August, Wolves turned their attention to Norwich City striker Nelson Oliveira – and it appears that the Portuguese international ticks all the boxes or the Championship league leaders.
Unlike Feyenoord’s Nicolai Jorgensen or Victoria Plzen striker Michal Krmencik, two impressive centre-forwards who have been linked with Wolves recently, Oliveira has a track record in English football. He’s scored 20 goals in the last two seasons combined for Nottingham Forest and Norwich.
But with Canaries boss Daniel Farke starting the one-time Benfica wonderkid just seven times in the Championship, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Norwich would listen to offers in January despite refusing to sell in the summer.
Oliviera wouldn’t come cheap at around £8 million, according to the Sunday People. But that fee is still within reach for a Wolves side backed by wealthy Chinese investors.
And with a whole host of Mendes clients already leading Wolves’ charge back to the Premier League, the success of Diogo Jota, Ruben Neves, Helder Costa and co should make the club’s chiefs confident that Oliveira would prove to be a similarly inspired investment.
