Rangers deemed Jordan Thompson not good enough for the Scottish Premiership before he signed for Blackpool.
Rangers made the decision to discard Jordan Thompson in June, and the 21-year-old midfielder has since done his best to show Steven Gerrard what he is missing.
Thompson was never really given a run in Rangers’ first-team, making two appearances in three years before being released in the summer. But he has shown what he can do since moving to Blackpool, helping the Tangerines to within three points of the play-off places with two goals from the centre of midfield.
Thompson has caught the eye with his thrust and dynamism in the heart of the engine room, and his impressive displays have now been rewarded with a call-up to the senior Northern Ireland squad ahead of next week’s international break.
The Belfast-born talent gained his two senior caps in May but has played the last few games for his country’s U21 side.
With games against the Republic of Ireland and Austria on the horizon, Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neil has promoted Thompson to his squad with the midfielder hoping to establish himself in his country’s plans.
