Martin Samuelsen’s chances of a future in the Premier League with West Ham United look particularly slim right now.

Ben Clappison of Hull tackles Martin Samuelsen of West Ham during the Second Leg of the Premier League U21 Cup Final at the KC Stadium on May 04, 2016 in Hull, England.

Martin Samuelsen’s time as a West Ham United player may be coming to an end.

The winger was loaned out once again this summer after spells at Peterborough, Blackburn and Burton in recent seasons, moving to Holland with VVV Venlo.

With the likes of Andriy Yarmolenko, Grady Diangana, Robert Snodgrass, Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini ahead of him in the pecking order, not to mention the potential arrival of Samir Nasri, Samuelsen probably had to set the Eredivisie alight in order to secure a future at the London Stadium.

So the fact that he has slipped down the pecking order in the Netherlands does not bode well.

The 21-year-old looked to have kick-started his VVV career with a terrific double in a KNVB Cup win against Westlandia back in September. But this appears to have been another false dawn for a player who has never really lived up to the top billing many had forced upon him.

Samuelsen has not started an Eredivisie game since being hauled off at the break in the 1-1 draw with Heereveen in September. He has failed to get off the bench in three of VVV’s last four games and has managed just 14 minutes of league football in the last two months.

The former Manchester City starlet is out of contract in 2020 so maybe it is time West Ham cashed in.
