Everton were linked with Atletico Madrid’s French international striker Kevin Gameiro, but Premier League rivals Swansea City have since made a bid.
Swansea City are desperate for a goal-scorer to fire them to safety and are willing to obliterate their transfer record to get one.
According to The Mail, the Swans have made a stunning bid for Atletico Madrid’s £25 million-rated French speedster Kevin Gameiro. The former PSG and Sevilla man has started just ten La Liga games all season and has been tipped to depart as Atleti aim to balance the books following Diego Costa’s big-money return.
Gameiro would be an immediate improvement on the likes of Wilfried Bony and Tammy Abraham. A Jamie Vardy-style striker who is renowned for his perfectly timed runs in behind high defensive lines, the 30-year-old scored 29 goals for Sevilla as recently as the 2015/16 season while firing the Andalucians to a third successive Europa League crown.
The problem for Swansea, however, is that Gameiro is understandably unwilling to swap Atletico for the side bottom of the Premier League. If the jet-heeled front man is to move to England this month, he would rather join a much bigger and more ambitious side, which should give Everton plenty to ponder.
The Sun reported late last year that Gameiro was one of the strikers the Toffees were considering during the January transfer window. And despite the addition of Cenk Tosun from Besiktas, manager Sam Allardyce wants another addition in attack and Gameiro would offer a completely different skill set to Turkey’s old-school number nine.
