Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are set to bring in Marvin Compper from Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig.

Celtic are closing in on the signings of two of the country’s most exciting young talents. According to the Herald Scotland, 21-year-old St Mirren winger Lewis Morgan is set to complete his move to The Hoops before spending the rest of the season with the Championship promotion-chasers.
And the report adds that Glasgow-born defender Jack Hendry (below) is also likely to put pen to paper with Celtic – though he too will be playing for Dundee until the end of 2017/18 in order to prepare him for life with the Champions.
Clearly, Celtic are building for the future. But after a 4-0 defeat by Hearts on Saturday, the latest in a series of concerning performances from a side whose standards have dropped in recent weeks, should Brendan Rodgers be doing more to bring in players who would immediately improve The Hoops’ first-team options?

A deal to sign Marvin Compper from RB Leipzig, then, looks even more inspired by comparison. According to the Scottish Sun, the German defender is set to sign for £1 million but, at the age of 32 and with just one Bundesliga start to his name all season, many Celtic fans have openly questioned the signing.
He’s hardly the archetypal Celtic addition either with his best years behind him and his value only likely to depreciate.

But unlike Hendry and Morgan, the experienced centre-back should be able to slot straight into the first-team – provided he adapts quickly to life in Scotland.
So Compper’s arrival should be better received by Celtic fans given that the squad is in need of a little injection of quality and depth right now – especially with Hendry and Morgan unlikely to arrive until the summer.
