Felipe Anderson has scored just one Premier League goal since he arrived at West Ham United from Serie A side Lazio in the summer transfer window.
West Ham United fans wanted to see Davids Gold and Sullivan show some ambition during the transfer window. And they certainly did that.
As well as making Manuel Pellegrini one of the highest paid managers in the Premier League, the Hammers’ co-owners funded a summer splurge worth over £100 milion in the summer with the likes of Issa Diop and Andriy Yarmolenko arriving at the London Stadium.
There was little doubt about West Ham’s most high-profile, or expensive, signing however. The Mail reports that Lazio winger Felipe Anderson arrived on a club-record fee that could rise to £42 million.
The 25-year-old has managed just one goal and one assist in his first eight Premier League games, a record that does not exactly suggest that Anderson has taken to English football in style.
And paying such a huge fee for a player like Anderson certainly carried a degree of risk. The former Santos starlet had a reputation as a luxury player at Lazio and there was no guarantee that he could adapt to the pace and power of English football.
But, according to the club’s official website, the Brazilian international has been the most creative player in the Premier League over the last four match days, the ICT Creativity Index pointing out that he has laid on 13 chances for his team-mates in that time.
Anderson has certainly showed what all the fuss is about in recent weeks, inspiring that 3-1 win against Manchester United with his driving runs and attacking thrust, not to mention a clinically taken finish.
If his West Ham teammates can improve in front of goal, expect Anderson to match his £42 million fee with some impressive stats over the next few months.
