Sheffield United reportedly want to sign Scott Hogan from Championship Aston Villa – who in turn want Shane Long from Premier League outfit Southampton

When both are fit and firing, there are certainly a few similarities between Shane Long and Scott Hogan.
They are aggressive, dynamic, speedy centre-forwards who are possibly at their best when latching onto through balls and racing towards goal. And, with the future of Hogan uncertain, it is interesting that Aston Villa want Shane Long, according to the Express and Star.
As they are rather alike in style, does Steve Bruce view one Republic of Ireland international as an upgrade on the other? After all, if Long does arrive on loan from Southampton, that will surely pave the way for Hogan to go elsewhere.
It is no secret that Sheffield United want to sign the £12 million frontman on loan. The Sun have claimed that The Blades would even be willing to pay all of his £35,000 a week wages in order to tempt Aston Villa to let him go.

Long’s arrival would push Hogan further down the pecking order, where he is already behind Jonathan Kodjia. And it seems therefore that a move away, even on a temporary basis, would do the former Brentford man the world of good as he hopes to rediscover his goal-scoring form.
Though Sheffield United may be forced to see where Long stands before they get an answer about Hogan’s future.
