Panama’s World Cup captain Roman Torres nearly joined Championship giants Nottingham Forest back in 2012

From Damien Perquis to Thomas Lam, Michael Mancienne to Matt Mills, Nottingham Forest fans have been forced to endure enough dodgy defenders over the last few years.
So it is fair to say that they are not too disappointed to learn that Roman Torres’ prospective move to the City Ground fell through.
In quotes reported by the Nottingham Post, the Seattle Sounders centre-back revealed that he had a trial with Forest back in 2012, during Steve Cotterill’s time in charge at the City Ground. And Torres, who had also been targeted by Swansea and Blackpool, claims that only a disagreement over personal terms stopped him from wearing the famous red shirt.

Six years ago, nobody in England knew Roman Torres. He was still contracted to Colombian club La Equidad after all. Today, however, the 32-year-old is a familiar face.
He is the tough-tackling captain of Panama, the team defeated 6-1 by England in a record-breaking World Cup win on Sunday afternoon. A Harry Kane hat-trick, a John Stones brace and a Jesse Lingard stunner fired the Three Lions to their biggest ever tournament victory against the Central American minnows.
Torres, meanwhile, helped give away a needless penalty in the first half as England cruised to a 5-0 lead and even found the time to miss a sitter at the other end.
And, on the basis of that performance, Forest fans seem quite relieved that they never had to watch Torres fly into tackles at the City Ground.
