Divock Origi has been linked with a move away from Liverpool all summer but remains at Anfield for now.

In an ideal world, Jurgen Klopp would like to trim the fat from a bloated Liverpool squad before the transfer window shuts at the end of August.

Simon Mignolet, Pedro Chirivella, Sheyi Ojo, Marko Grujic and Ragnar Klavan could all be about to bid farewell to Anfield this month. But the future of Divock Origi appears far less certain as things stand.

The Belgian striker is well down the pecking order and did himself few favours with a disappointing loan spell at Wolfsburg in 2017/18, scoring just six times in 31 Bundesliga starts.

A number of Premier League clubs were reportedly interested, with El Desmarque claiming that Crystal Palace had offered £16 million, but for obvious reasons Origi will now not be joining another club in England’s top flight.

But will he be moving at all? El Desmarque added that Valencia were keen but Los Che have just signed Origi’s international teammate Michy Batshuayi on a season-long loan and Kevin Gameiro from Atletico Madrid. Valencia can also call on Spanish international Rodrigo Moreno, as well as Simone Zaza.

There will surely be other clubs on the continent interested in Origi but Fenerbahce, who Turkish Football claim wanted him on loan, have signed Leicester City’s Islam Slimani instead.

Liverpool are hoping to succeed on a number of fronts this season and need all the depth they can get. But Origi is behind the much vaunted front three, Daniel Sturridge and Dominic Solanke in the pecking order.

The former Lille forward has a lot to offer but five more months at Anfield feel like a waste of his own time at this stage of his career.
