Aston Villa are reported to have had hoped to bring Rolando Aarons to the Championship from Newcastle United.

Who knows where Rolando Aarons would be right now if it wasn’t for a relentless series of injuries.

Three years after exploding onto the scene at Newcastle United with a Man of the Match display in a 2-0 EFL Cup win at Manchester City, the 22-year-old winger has started just three league games for The Magpies.

There’s no doubting his potential – Aarons is arguably the most exciting talent out of Newcastle’s academy in the last decade – but fractured metatarsals, ruptured tendons and hamstring twangs have left his future in doubt at Tyneside.

According to The Chronicle, Aarons is one of five senior players Newcastle will look to sell in January, along with Jack Colback, Mo Diame, Massadio Haidara and Henri Saivet, as manager Rafa Benitez aims to raise funds for new additions.

And even a mooted move to Aston Villa may now be in doubt. The Mirror stated that Geordie gaffer Steve Bruce was hoping to raid his boyhood club and hand Aarons a fresh start in the Midlands.

But with Financial Fair Play keeping Villa from spending in January, the only way they could have afforded a deal for Aarons would have been if Newcastle were willing to let him go on loan.

The Magpies, however, need to sell in order to buy in the New Year – so with a price-tag on Aarons’ head, Bruce will be concerned that the Jamaican starlet is beyond Aston Villa’s means.
