£12m Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan has recently been linked with a move to another Championship club, Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United.

Is Scott Hogan now set for a second chance at Aston Villa?
The Republic of Ireland striker has struggled badly since moving to Villa from Brentford in January 2017 for a hefty £12 million fee. Injuries have taken their toll and, in total, Hogan has managed to score just seven goals in 51 Championship appearances for his current club.
But the chances of Hogan heading to Sheffield United this summer now look decidedly slim.
The Star had claimed that the Blades wanted to sign the 26-year-old on loan. But Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce did not want to let Hogan leave on a temporary basis, meaning United would have to probably break their transfer record to bring him in.
This perhaps explains why Sheffield United have been linked with alternatives in recent days. The Mail claimed on Friday that they had made a £5 million bid for Ipswich Town’s Martyn Waghorn which, while far from cheap, is still less than Villa would demand for Hogan.
Now, HITC sources are telling us that Sheffield United have made an enquiry about the experienced Derby County front man David Nugent, too.

All of this suggests that Chris Wilder’s side have perhaps moved on from Hogan. And, with Villa now being taken over by some rather rich new owners, they are no longer in a position where they need to sell.
Hogan might just have been handed a reprieve.
