Jack Thomson could make his debut for Glasgow Rangers in tonight’s League Cup clash against Ayr United.

Back in May 2017, Jack Thomson was handed a contract at Rangers until 2020 and the young midfielder set himself a target.
“In those two years I definitely want to break into the first-team, that’s my main objective,” he told the club’s official website.
14 months on, Thomson is certainly right on track. After an impressive performance in Rangers’ 6-2 under-20 thrashing of Motherwell on Monday night, youth coach Peter Lovenkrands lauded his ‘outstanding’ display.
And Thomson’s performance has not gone unnoticed. Speaking to Rangers’ official website, assistant manager Gary McAllister has confirmed that Thomson is one of a number of highly-rated youngster who is in contention to feature against Ayr in Wednesday’s League Cup clash.

The chances are that Thomson will be kept on the bench, with his inclusion in the senior side merely allowing him to get a taste of what is to come. But, should he continue his impressive performances at youth level, there is reason to believe a first-team bow could be on the horizon.
Gerrard, after all, made his name as a coach at academy level with Liverpool so obviously knows all about the importance of young players, which certainly stands Thomson in good stead.
He wanted to make his senior bow for Rangers before May 2019 – and it seems that he is on track right now.
