Southampton paid £19.2million for Guido Carrillo but he did not score a goal before moving to La Liga club Leganes on loan.

It just did not work out for Guido Carrillo at Southampton.
The Saints paid a club record £19.2 million to sign the Paraguay international from Monaco in the January transfer window, but it is fair to say he was not the solution to the club’s goal-scoring problems.
Carrillo started just five Premier League games in five months, failed to score a single goal, and hardly featured once Mark Hughes took over from Mauricio Pellegrino and led Southampton to safety.
Carrillo is now working alongside Pellegrino again, moving to La Liga side Leganes on loan. And, speaking to Somoslega, the 27-year-old has indicated that he is preferring life in Spain to the English south coast.
“I’m very happy. They treat me very well, I feel like I’m in Argentina, at home,” said the former Estudiantes man.
“The culture is similar and I have Argentinian friends here.”

Carrillo has not exactly proved a point to his parent club, failing to score in six games for Leganes so far, although he did net a penalty in a 4-1 defeat to Real Madrid.
With Danny Ings now impressing for the Saints, it seems unlikely that Carrillo has a future at St Mary’s, especially with manager Hughes clearly unimpressed.
Perhaps a permanent departure would suit both parties in the New Year.
