Championship duo Leeds United and Aston Villa are reportedly keen on Scott McTominay, the young midfielder at Manchester United.
Scott McTominay has been handed the odd opportunity in Manchester United’s first-team of late, but not in the way he would have been hoping for.
The 21-year-old has started United’s last two Premier League games but has been shoved into an unfamiliar role in the back three. And McTominay has looked like a square peg in a round hole, struggling badly in the 3-1 defeat to West Ham United before being hauled off at half-time with United 2-0 down at home to Newcastle.
So McTominay might be better off away from the perpetual crisis at Old Trafford right now. According to the Sun, Leeds United and Aston Villa are interested in the academy graduate in January, with Jose Mourinho willing to send him out on loan.
And Villa could have one distinct advantage over their Championship rivals.
John Terry returned to Villa Park last week as an assistant to newly appointed manager Dean Smith. And the former centre-back is a man Mourinho knows and respects greatly, having won three Premier League titles together during their time at Chelsea.
So the presence of the former Blues skipper on Villa’s coaching staff bodes well for their hopes of signing McTominay on a temporary basis.
Mourinho is a huge fan of Terry’s personality and leadership skills. And it is this experience and character that could rub off on McTominay with great effect.
