Wolverhampton Wanderers look set to pull off another major transfer coup by landing Atletico Madrid starlet Diogo Jota on loan.

A number of Wolves fans may have taken issue with the fact that super-agent Jorge Mendes has almost taken up a pseudo sporting director role at Molineux.

But it goes without saying that Wolves’ chances of luring one of the most exciting talents from a club who featured in two of the last four Champions League finals without Mendes pulling the strings would be slim at best.

According to the Express and Star, Wolves are set to make 20-year-old Atletico Madrid winger Diogo Jota their fourth Portuguese signing of an eye-catching transfer window. And, yes, the deal is as exciting as it seems.

Atletico paid Pacos de Ferreira £6 million to sign Jota just 12 months ago and, during a season long loan deal at Porto, then managed by current Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, the winger scored nine goals in 38 appearances.

The report adds that Wolves will have the option of signing Jota permanently at the end of the season. And if the Portuguese Under-23 international proves to be half as exhilarating as his idol, the Black Country club will have one hell of a player on their hands.

“I’m quick on the ball and like to attack with aggression, and one of my best qualities is the range of goals I’m capable of scoring, be it with my head, left foot, or right,” Jota told Marca after signing for Atletico last year.

“I love watching (Antoine) Griezmann play, and I think we have some similarities, even in terms of physical appearance.”

While Griezmann will not be moving to England this summer, committing his future to Atletico following their transfer ban, his fleet-footed protégé could light up the Championship.
