Tottenham Hotspur reportedly want to bring Max Kruse to the Premier League when his contract at Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen ends in the summer.
Eyebrows were raised in North London when Sky reported last week that Tottenham Hotspur had renewed their interest in Max Kruse.
After all, the German international rejected a move to Spurs back in 2015 and, at the age of 31, it seemed that he had missed his chance to join one of the top clubs in European football. But it is credit to the veteran striker that, even as he enters the autumn years of his career, there are still teams willing to take a chance on him.
And with good reason. Kruse’s form in the last few weeks has been simply extraordinary.
He scored twice and set up the other as Werder Bremen beat Mainz 3-1 in the first game after the international break, meaning the former Monchengladbach and Wolfsburg forward now has six goals and four assists in his last five Bundesliga matches.
“Max is doing a great job, both on and off the pitch,” Bremen coach Florian told the Bundesliga’s official website.
“He is a difference maker.”
He certainly is. In Europe’s top five leagues, only Barcelona great Lionel Messi has contributed to more goals (11) than Kruse (10) over the last five match days.
Suddenly, signing the Bremen captain on a free seems like a risk worth taking for a Tottenham side who are still crying out for a Harry Kane alternative.
