The Uruguayan looks likely to leave Bordeaux – but will Aston Villa and Newcastle United renew interest?

Diego Rolan is ready to call it a day at Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux, MadeInFoot reports, but will he finally make the move to England?
The Uruguayan was previously one of the French club’s key players but he has fallen down the pecking order this season with manager Jocelyn Gourvennec preferring to put his faith in the talented youngsters at his disposal.
Consequently, Rolan has started just 16 Ligue 1 games this season, netting four times, and recently stated that perhaps the time has come to cut his ties with Bordeaux.
“We will see if there is a possibility to leave at the end of the season but I do not have a concrete offer,” the 23-year-old told MadeInFoot. “Though sometimes I think I want to leave.
“I’m staying with Bordeaux [for now] and I’m trying hard for the team. I would like to help the club qualify for the Europa League.”
The Daily Mail reported in the summer of 2015 that Newcastle United had made a bid of £13 million for Rolan after an impressive breakthrough season across The Channel while Villa had identified him as a potential replacement for Christian Benteke.

Villa have made good use of the French market in recent seasons, signing the likes of Jordan Amavi and Idrissa Gueye, and with Ross McCormack set to leave in the summer Steve Bruce could be in the market for another striker.
Newcastle, meanwhile, have also delved into Ligue 1 to pick up bargains over the years and the overreliance on Dwight Gayle, plus doubts surrounding Aleksandar Mitrovic’s future, means they too could benefit from another forward option.

And the upside to Rolan falling out of favour at Bordeaux is that his £15 million transfer fee will surely have decreased somewhat.
