Wolverhampton Wanderers sold George Saville to Championship outfit Millwall last season for just £350,000.

Wolverhampton Wanderers fans could be forgiven for being taken aback by George Saville’s development at Millwall last season.

The Chelsea academy graduate became a victim of Wolves’ success last summer, being forced out by the big-money arrival of Ruben Neves as Jorge Mendes and the Fosun International powered the club back to the Premier League.

But a player who looked little more than average at Molineux quickly evolved into one of the Championship’s most impressive performers under Neil Harris at the Den. Saville ended his debut Millwall season ten goals, doubling his previous career best.

These days, the Mail adds that the Irishman is worth a whole lot more than the £350,000 Wolves sold him for with both Leeds and Aston Villa watching on as Saville impressed in the Championship opener against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Now, it would seem a little odd to suggest that Wolves were wrong to cash in, particularly when Nuno can deploy a midfield partnership of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho.

But there is a long, hard season coming up and perhaps Saville would have been a useful, energetic presence to have around the place, if only in a backup role.

As many Millwall fans will tell you, some of his performances last season could have been considered Premier League quality.
