Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers were reportedly offered the chance to sign Juventus’ Serie A champion Stefano Sturaro
Despite winning four Serie A titles in his four years as a Juventus player, it seemed that Stefano Sturaro came to the conclusion that he could only make the next step in his career if he turned his back on the Old Lady.
The 25-year-old’s importance has declined year by year in Turin. He made just seven Serie A starts in 2017/18, the lowest of his Juve career. As a result, he is no longer a regular in the Italian national team either despite making impressive strides at Euro 2016.
So a season-long loan move to Sporting Lisbon could be the making of him. Sturaro is expected to be a key player at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, particularly with both William Carvalho and Rodrigo Battaglia having left huge gaps in the midfield.
Therefore, maybe it is a blessing in disguise that Wolves have turned down the chance to sign him. According to Record, Wolves were offered Sturaro but were reluctant to pay £18 million for the former Genoa midfielder.
And, had he moved to Molineux, he could easily have found himself fourth in the pecking order behind Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho and Leander Dendoncker. And that is without mentioning the influential Romain Saiss.
Sturaro could have found himself in exactly the same situation that he was in at Juventus.
