Sunderland reportedly wanted to make Toto Nsiale integral to their League One promotion challenge but he moved up to the Championship instead.

It looked like Sunderland had missed out on a hugely impressive signing when Toto Nsiala completed his move to Ipswich Town in the summer.
According to the Shropshire Star, a relegated Sunderland side had hoped to bring Nsiala to the Stadium of Light after he reached the League One play-off final with unfancied Shrewsbury Town last season.
But the powerful centre-back followed Paul Hirst to Ipswich instead, moving to Portman Road alongside former Shrews teammate Jon Nolan for a combined fee of £1.5 million, as reported by the Mail.

Even for such a small fee, it seems that many Ipswich fans think they have been robbed. Nsiala has started eight Championship games so far and the Tractor Boys have won just one of those, conceding 12 goals in that time, while the former Everton youngster was also sent off against Sheffield Wednesday.
Who knows, perhaps Nsiala would have been better off at Sunderland in a league where he established himself as one of the best centre-backs around. Is he out of his depth in the Championship?
Jack Ross’s side, meanwhile, are third in League One with one of the best defensive records in the division.
