Ouasim Bouy hasn’t come close to making a Championship appearance since joining Leeds United in August 2017.
It is fair to say Victor Orta’s signings at Leeds United can best be described as a ‘mixed bag’.
For every Barry Douglas and Samu Saiz, there has been a Jay-Roy Grot and Marcos Antonsson. Though if one player perhaps leads the way as the biggest flop brought to Elland Road by their director of football, it surely has to be Ouasim Bouy.
Arriving on a free in the summer of 2017, a player who has already represented Juventus, Ajax and Hamburg at the age of 25 quickly became Leeds’ forgotten man.
Bouy made just four appearances on loan at Leeds’ sister club Cultural Leonesa in Spain last season and has hardly set the world alight since returning to the Eredivisie with PEC Zwolle in the summer either.
But at least the former Dutch U19 international got 90 minutes under his belt as Zwolle beat De Graafschap 2-0 away from home at the weekend. In fact, this was the first time that Bouy had started and finished a game for any club since joining Leeds 16 months ago.
It remains to be seen whether this represent a turning point for Bouy, or merely the latest false dawn in a career that has never got off the ground.
