Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are reportedly hoping to beat a number of Premier League clubs to Championship defender Dael Fry.
Dael Fry has been one of the breakthrough stars in this Championship campaign and, as a result, Middlesbrough can expect plenty of interest when the January transfer window opens.
According to TEAMtalk, Premier League trio Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Chelsea are interested in the England U21 international while a Celtic side needing reinforcements at the back are also keen.
Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops are expected to lose Dedryck Boyata in the New Year and Fry, a commanding and technically gifted, modern-day centre-back, looks perfect on paper for the former Liverpool boss.
And with Fry being fielded at right-back of late, a position Celtic are in desperate need of strengthening, the 21-year-old certainly ticks a lot of boxes for the reigning Scottish Premiership champions.
But it’s fair to say Fry isn’t the finished article just yet. His lack of experience in the right back role was exposed in brutal fashion by a rampant Yannick Bolasie, who ripped Boro’s defence apart in a 3-0 home thrashing on Saturday.
Middlesbrough fans were less than impressed by Fry’s display, suggesting that he is not yet ready to play on the flank against a top quality opponent like Bolasie.
So Rodgers should take note if he sees Fry as a potential replacement for the ageing Mikael Lustig.
