Championship crisis club Aston Villa are seemingly desperate to sell striker Ross McCormack in this summer’s transfer window.
Aston Villa need to raise £50 million in the next two transfer windows through player sales in order to avoid Financial Fair Play sanctions. Surely, then, that means Ross McCormack is ripe for the cull.
The misfit striker, who Villa paid £12 million for in the summer of 2016, has barely got a look-in since Steve Bruce replaced Roberto Di Matteo at the helm just a few months into his debut season, with poor form and disciplinary issues ruining his spell in claret and blue.
And, despite the fact McCormack scored 14 goals in 14 starts during a loan spell with Australian side Melbourne Victory, he was not even handed a minute of first-team action once he returned to Villa Park in the January transfer window.
The Birmingham Mail is now claiming that Villa are prepared to take a substantial financial hit on McCormack as they are growing increasingly desperate to sell one of their highest earners. According to the Telegraph, the 31-year-old is earning in excess of £40,000 a week at Villa Park.
But the fans seem to have a different perspective. Rather than cashing in on McCormack, should they give him the chance to remind everyone that he is one of the most prolific goal-scorers outside the Premier League?
