Celtic had tried to sign goalkeeper Freddie Woodman on loan from Premier League giants Newcastle United but he had an agreement to sign for Aberdeen.

Celtic did get the new goalkeeper they had been craving on transfer deadline day, signing Dundee’s Scott Bain after two years tracking the 26-year-old shot-stopper.
But Bain was hardly the only glovesman Celtic had attempted to sign as the hours ticked down. As reported by the Daily Record, the Hoops made a move to bring in Newcastle United youngster Freddie Woodman on loan.
The 20-year-old is one of the most high-rated young goalkeepers in English football and Newcastle were keen to let him leave on a temporary basis to get some much-needed first-team football under his belt.

But instead of joining Celtic, Woodman has rocked up at Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen instead. And it appears that the Bhoys had simply left it too late as the England U20 World Cup winning goalkeeper already had a verbal agreement to move to Pittodrie.
“There were lots of clubs in for Freddie but his commitment and word to us meant a lot and we’re looking forward to getting him with us,” Dons manager Derek McInnes told the Evening Express when asked about Celtic’s late interest in Woodman.
“He’s a fantastic young talent. I’m really looking forward to working with him.”

Woodman proved himself in Scotland during an excellent loan spell with Kilmarnock during the second half of last season. And Aberdeen will be hoping he can have a similar impact at Pittodrie with number one Joe Lewis on the sidelines.
Yet it will be interesting to see how Woodman’s performances at Aberdeen compare to Bain’s in between the sticks at Celtic.
