Championship side West Bromwich Albion have reportedly identified Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes as a potential replacement for Moore at The Hawthorns.

TEAMtalk reported that Derek McInnes would be open to taking over at West Bromwich Albion after the sacking of Darren Moore on Saturday.

But the Aberdeen boss was hardly complimentary about his former side when asked for his verdict on the controversial decision to hand club legend Moore his P45.

West Brom were sitting fourth in the Championship table with the league’s second best goal-scoring record when Moore was sacked at the weekend; a decision that has led to plenty of criticism from fans and pundits aplenty.

McInnes, who spent three years at The Hawthorns as a player between 2000 and 2003, is one of the names in the frame to take over. But, in quotes reported by the Evening Express, the Dons manager has chosen to question West Brom’s decision rather than flutter his eyelashes in their direction.

“I’m gutted for Darren. I got a text on Saturday night and it’s more disappointment than shock now when you see managers who are friends losing their job. It just seems really unfair on him, to be honest,” the 47-year-old said.

“It’s a ridiculous way to manage. You don’t get a chance to build or plan or create anything. It’s all short term.”

McInnes has been Aberdeen’s manager since 2013 so he is clearly a coach who likes to be given time to implement his methods. Leaving Pittodrie for the Championship, where managers have a famously short shelf-life, would probably not be the best idea then.

The Telegraph reports that Slavisa Jokanovic, David Wagner, Alex Neil and Carlos Carvalhal are all on West Brom’s radar.
